Sorry to break it to you, but I eat around 7000 cals in the off season. I diet on a little less. FOOD is the key to growth, on or off gear. You may not need 7000 cals but I'm sure you'll need more than a standard 2000 cal diet. Needs are individual and related to the amount of size you've developed.
Heres the thing. Training is fun. Diet is where bodybuilders are made. Diet is HARD. Its the hardest part of being a BB. If it was easy, everyone would be huge. Look at it this way. You dont walk in the gym and bench 300 lbs on your first day. You work up to it. A pretty standard meal 1 looks like this for a 200 lbs guy that I'm working with. 5 whole eggs, 7 egg whites and 1 cup of oats. That may sound like a lot, if you aren't used to eating that much. So start out with what you can eat and you build from there. Just like you start in the gym with what you can lift and you add more each week. Eventually, you can reach your goals.
Don't forget, fats are very cal dense. You can add a lot of good cals to your diet by upping your fats. I consume about 2-300g a day, depending on how the rest of my diet looks.
Start out getting 2grams of protein per lb of body weight. Make sure you consume that, first and foremost. Then add in your carbs and fats.
