I have used humilin R through the day and then used Humalog preworkout or post workout. This works well, but personally, I prefer to use just humlin r. As long as you wait 6 hours for the humilin r to clear, you can use log at your workout. I have heard of guys taking it a step further, using lantis in the morning and then Log post workout but I personally have no experience with lantis, so I can not currently comment on that
