At 22%BF, 220 lbs, you are holding about 50 lbs of non-lean tissue. This alone tells me that you need to focus on your diet, no matter what your long term goal is. I'm not sure what kind of performance you would like to improve, but I'm sure that reducing some fat would help in all areas of life.
So I would take a look at your current plan and see what you need to change. Focus your meals around protein. Use lean protein sources like chicken, fish, and eggs. If you can use carbs, keep the carbs clean as well. Be sure that the majority of your fats are ECA's.
You're also going to need cardio and a solid training plan.
If you are 100% commited to making some changes. you can achieve whatever you want. Keep this in mind through the process. If I could tell you everything you needed to know, right here, I would. What it takes to get in shape is going to be different for each person though. Also, I dont know your experience level or exact goals.
