IGF is responsible for muscle growth. Unlike GH, it isn't going to help with fat loss or the other benefits of GH. It is simply going to help with muscle gain. Gh will raise your IGF levels and keep the elevated for an extended period. IMO, the magic happens when you add IGF LR3 to your GH cycle.

An advantage to using just IGF is that it is cheaper and you can get a good effect from it faster than with GH. A disadvantage to IGF IME, is that you need to take breaks from it, as it seems to become less effective over time. I find that by using a lower dose of IGF, I can get a decent effect from it for a longer period than if I were to hammer in a larger dose. I'll use around 25mcg IGF for about 8 wks on, then 3 wks off. In an ideal world, an ADVANCED athlete would be taking 3-4iu GH every 4 hours and then 25mcg of IGF post workout.

If you are just looking for something to help retain gains during PCT, IGF would probably be your ticket. If you take it preworkout, the pumps can be out of this world, which is a nice feeling, when you are suffering low hormone levels in PCT
