Muscle growth in spite of injury

Hello, and thank you for answering previous questions. Your knowledge has been most useful in my own bodybuilding experience. Currently I have what appears to be a shoulder impingement issue characterized by sharp pain and significant weakness in the right shoulder by the acromion. Any overhead pressing on shoulder or chest day is nearly impossible due to pain and weakness. This is even true with very light weight of say even 25 lb dumbbells. What would your protocol be given this scenario? And is it possible to achieve good growth with only doing flyes and various raise type movements? Again, thank you so much for your time and knowledge in this and any other matter!

Hey bro, I'm sorry to hear about this set back. I have had to deal with shoulder issues myself. Thankfully, mine is severe tendonitis, which can be worked with. There have been times though, that I was unable to lift. The first thing I would do is find out exactly what is going on by getting an MRI. If this is a persistent injury, that has limited you from lifting more than 25 lbs, something is going on in there, that you need to understand. Once you understand it, you will better know what action to take. If you are lucky, and it's bursitis or tendonitis, you can work through it. If something has ruptured, you may need to go under the knife.

No matter what the issue is, I would ice it every day, at least 3 times a day, for 20 minutes on. I also use a prescription anti inflammation topical gel, called voltaren. I also have the advantage of owning a tens unit. My tendon got most inflamed during a prep a few years back and for the last 6 to 8 wks, i was limited to only fly movements. As I'm sure you know...not a fun workout! At best, you may maintain muscle with flies, and IMO, that's probably only going to last so long.

If you get an MRI and come back with a clean bill of health, let me know and I can help you rehab tendonitis, but you'll need to know thats what it is, before you ventrue on.
