I understand what you mean but look at it this way, when you are on cycle, you are going to lift heavier and go more intense during each set so you will do more damage and need more recovery. So it kind of balances itself out. Maybe new guys make the mistake of doing more. What I would suggest focusing on is working on getting more out of the set you’re doing. More focus in each rep. Slow negatives. Hard squeezes. Lets take the lat pull down for instance. Try this. Without rocking your torso, drive the weight down aggressively, then hold at the bottom for 1 full second. That means 1 full second, count 1-1 thousand 2, squeezing your back HARD. As hard as you can. Then begin the negative. On the negative, slowly let the weight up for 3 full seconds. You may even need to lower the weight if you are used to using less controlled form. But if you do 4 sets of totally controlled reps like this, you will get so much more out of your back training than just doing more with basic form.
